U.K.’s Vallance sees NHS as source and beneficiary of life sciences innovation

U.K. Minister for Science Patrick Vallance sees opportunities for harnessing the NHS as an asset at the same time as improving it by bringing clinical trials to the core of how the health service functions. Leveraging the country’s strengths in patient data, genomics and scientific innovation, the government plans to grow the life sciences sector — assuming it can settle the current crisis over drug pricing. 

Vallance spoke about the strategy at last week’s BioCentury Grand Rounds — Europe conference in Cambridge, U.K., in a fireside chat moderated by Kate Bingham, managing partner at SV Health Investors and former chair of the U.K.’s vaccine task force during COVID. ...
