Cell article sweeps the journal into fight over CRISPR's origins

Rather than setting the record straight to give the unsung "heroes" of the origins of CRISPR their due, a Perspective in Cell by Eric Lander - founding director of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard - has the research community questioning the journal's conflict of interest (COI) policy, fueled by the fact that the Broad is embroiled in a patent fight over the technology with the University of California Berkeley and the University of Vienna.

In response to the Perspective, UC Berkeley professor and CRISPR researcher Jennifer Doudna issued a comment in PubMed Commons which stated: "The description of my lab's research and our interactions with other investigators is factually incorrect, was not checked by the author and was not agreed to by me prior to publication." ...
