ViroPharma leaps on auction rumors

ViroPharma Inc. (NASDAQ:VPHM) jumped $8.66 (28%) to $39.13 on Friday on rumors it hired Goldman Sachs for a possible auction after receiving an unsolicited bid. Shire plc (LSE:SHP; NASDAQ:SHPG) and Sanofi (Euronext:SAN; NYSE:SNY) also have expressed interest in ViroPharma, according to the rumors. Sanofi, Shire and ViroPharma all said they do not comment on market rumors. ...
