Sepset’s sepsis signature

How Sepset’s gene expression test could speed up diagnosis of sepsis

Sepset Biosciences Inc.’s gene expression test detects an "endotoxin tolerance" signature that can diagnose sepsis as soon as patients appear in an emergency room, earlier than approved assays and thereby providing more time for antibiotics to kick in to prevent a fatal outcome.

Sepsis is an abnormal immune response to infection that frequently causes organ failure and death. Once thought of as simply out of control inflammation, sepsis is now viewed as mix of hyperinflammation and immune suppression.

When a patient appears in the ER with undiagnosed sepsis there's a 25% increased risk of death with every four hours that passes without antibiotic therapy, highlighting the need for early diagnosis.
