Gelsolin, a protein from human plasma that severs actin fibers, can thin the mucus of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients. Harvard researchers showed that the mucus contains filamentous actin, and that gelsolin decreased the viscosity of CF sputum samples in vitro by 62 percent. ...
