MPRO (Bothell, Wash.) presented animal data with its new agents, including lead compound MPC-467. The oligonucleotides don't act as antisense agents. In vitro, the agents caused large vacuoles to appear in liver tumor cells, and reduced formation of colonies in culture.

Colon cancer cell lines were also sensitive to the drug. A mouse leukemic cell line showed partial inhibition of growth by the compounds in vitro, and inhibition in vivo. A cervical carcinoma cell line and a nasopharyngeal carcinoma line were insensitive to the compound. ...
