Oncolytic HSV-loaded MSCs could treat dispersed brain metastases in melanoma

A Harvard team has shown that mesenchymal stem cells loaded with oncolytic HSV can treat the multi-focal brain metastases of melanoma in mice.

The findings could provide a therapeutic option to the roughly 50% of advanced melanoma patients whose metastatic disease is difficult to treat with surgery because of the dispersal of the metastases throughout the brain, and not amenable to systemic therapies that cannot cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB)...
