How an Alzheimer's compound induces fat burning and food intake

An oral mimetic of the neurotrophic growth factor BDNF has the unusual profile of breaking down fat while increasing food intake, according to preclinical findings from a group at Emory University. Most of the molecule's activities are plausibly explained by its action on skeletal muscle, but the researchers are still stumped by the fact that the anti-obesity effects are only seen in females.
