NIH to invest $20M in fetal tissue alternatives

NIH said Monday it plans to invest up to $20 million over the next two years to develop and validate experimental human tissue models that do not use human fetal tissue obtained from elective abortions.

The institutes issued a funding opportunity requesting research proposals for developing alternative models of human fetal tissue in biomedical research, which could include cell culture models using induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC), iPSC-derived organoids or other 3-D culture systems...
