Utah House approves bill to allow Canadian drug imports

Utah's House of Representatives voted Wednesday to approve a bill that would establish a state program to allow import of drugs from Canada. The bill seeks approval from HHS to set up a state drug importation program, under which a contracted wholesale pharmacy can purchase prescription drugs from approved wholesalers in Canada, in an effort to obtain drugs at lower prices.

Current federal law allows drug importation, but makes it contingent on certification by the HHS secretary that the drugs would be safe and would provide economic benefits to consumers...
