Trump to discuss drug prices with Cummings

President Trump will meet with Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) next week to seek common ground on policies to reduce drug prices, a spokesperson for Cummings told BioCentury on Wednesday.

Cummings, one of the pharmaceutical industry’s fiercest critics in Congress, is championing importation, Medicare drug price negotiation, cost transparency requirements, and other steps to reduce the prices of drugs. At a press conference Tuesday concerning drug importation legislation, Cummings said Democrats are "attacking [the drug pricing] problem by focusing on ideas that even President Trump says he supports -- ideas like allowing for the responsible importation of safe and affordable drugs, and making sure that Medicare is finally allowed to negotiate for lower drug prices. The president’s support for these ideas has been so clear that I am tempted to introduce a bill on the House side named 'The Donald Trump Drug Affordability Act.'"...
