St. Jude launches online pediatric data repository

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital launched an online pediatric cancer genomics data-sharing platform, St. Jude Cloud, through a collaboration with bioinformatics company DNAnexus Inc. (Mountain View, Calif.) and Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT).

St. Jude Cloud includes more than 5,000 whole-genome, 5,000 whole-exome and 1,200 RNA-Seq data sets from more than 5,000 pediatric cancer patients generated through three of its pediatric genomics initiatives. The hospital expects to have 10,000 whole-genome sequences available by 2019. The platform includes interactive tools for data analysis and visualization.

DNAnexus provided the technology for the repository, and it is stored on Microsoft's Azure cloud-computing platform.
