PhRMA launches opioid initiative

PhRMA launched a multiyear, multimillion dollar initiative on Tuesday to address the opioid crisis, including a partnership with the Addiction Policy Forum to fund state and local programs. The trade group also made a series of policy recommendations to address the crisis.

Addiction Policy Forum will receive a "significant" commitment from industry in 2018 to implement nationwide educational prevention programs, establish an online addiction resource center, develop new post-overdose tools and protocols for health systems, raise funds to support substance abuse treatment and recovery research at NIH's National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and grow statewide recovery community organizations.
