ALA topical photodynamic therapy data

DUSA announced encouraging results from a Phase I/II dose-ranging trial in acne, which had not been designed to show statistically significant differences. Treatment was on 80 acne lesions, including controls, in 10 patients. A single treatment with six different doses of light was given using a non-laser, red light source and two different concentrations of ALA.

After seven days, 80-100 percent improvement was seen in up to 75 percent of the ALA treated areas, compared to none of the light alone control sites, and 29 percent of the ALA alone control sites. After 21 days, significant clearing had occurred in up to 80 percent of the ALA sites, compared to 40 percent of the light alone control sites, and 25 percent of the ALA alone control sites.
