University researchers published animal data in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences showing that pimagedine protects against aging-related vascular and kidney problems. The compound inhibits advanced glycosylation endproducts (AGEs), which have been linked to tissue damage in diabetes and aging.
The effects of pimagedine on aging-related vascular and renal changes and AGE accumulation were studied in two non-diabetic rat models. Significant increases in the AGE content in cardiac, aortic and renal tissues were prevented by treatment (p<0.05). Treatment with pimagedine also prevented age-linked vasodilatory impairment in response to acetylcholine and nitroglycerine (p<0.005), as well as age-related cardiac hypertrophy (p<0.05). ...
