Researchers showed in Nature that beta-amyloid interacts with endothelial cells on blood vessels in the brain to produce an excess of superoxide radicals, which cause alterations in endothelial structure and function. They noted that the superoxide radicals, which scavenge endothelium-derived relaxing factor and produce potent oxidizing agents, cause lipid peroxidation and other degenerative changes. ...
