Recombinant human bone morphogenic protein-2 data

GENIZ presented preliminary results from a clinical feasibility study of its BMP-2 for maxillary sinus floor augmentation, showing that 12 of 12 treated patients had radiographic evidence of new bone formation at 16 weeks. Ten of the 12 patients had sufficient bone to receive dental implants.

When teeth are missing from the upper jaw, such augmentation is used to increase the bone height of the posterior upper jaw by grafting the lower 1/3 of the maxillary sinus so that dental implants may be placed. The current method is autologous bone harvesting and grafting from the hip. ...
