SEEDB sued Northrup in U.S. District Court in Rockfield, Ill., alleging infringement of patents covering genetically transformed corn with Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt). Patent No. 5,484,956 covers Bt technology, and Patent No. 5,489,520 is a process patent for genetic engineering of plants. The suit claims infringement of SEEDB's rights to gene gun transformation technology as it relates to Northrup's Bt and marker genes. The suit is identical to ones filed in April against Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Mycogen Corp. (MYCO, San Diego, Calif.), and Ciba-Geigy. ...
