CTRX presented preclinical evidence that its IGF-I complexed with its binding protein can overcome experimentally induced catabolism (destructive metabolism). The rate of synthesis of muscle protein also was returned to near normal levels, the company reported at the International Congress of Endocrinology in San Francisco.
The complex stimulated protein synthesis by 142 percent in partially starved rats, but the growth factor alone did not (p<0.05). The rate of protein synthesis was 68 percent of the rate in control rats eating freely (p<0.05). The complex was given for three days as a twice daily intravenous injection. ...
