University researchers published the identification of GLP-2 as a stimulant of intestinal tissue growth. The hormone, whose function was not understood, appears to prompt growth of the lining of the small intestine, as reported in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. GLP-2 was isolated as the active factor responsible for proliferation of the epithelium of the small intestine in nude mice bearing implanted tumors that produce proglucagon. ...
