Japanese researchers were able to reconstitute the entire blood cell supply in mice with a stem cell that did not bear the CD34 marker. Injection of a single cell reconstituted the bone marrow system in 20 percent of mice whose marrow had been irradiated. As reported in Science, the mouse homolog of the human CD34 gene was used as the target of a monoclonal antibody raised in rats. ...
