Thymosin alpha 1 immunomodulator data

SCLN reported preliminary results of an open-label Phase III Italian trial at the International Conference on AIDS in Vancouver. The 91-patient trial enrolled patients with CD4 counts of 200-500. Patients received 500 mg AZT daily; or AZT plus 3 MU interferon alpha intramuscularly twice a week; or a triple combination including 2 mg of thymosin alpha 1 subcutaneously twice a week.
After one year, the triple treatment gave a decrease in mean HIV RNA of 9,880 copies/ml, whereas the other two treatments were associated with an increased viral load. Median CD4 counts were up by 64 with the triple therapy, but decreased in the other treatment arms. ...
