AMGN called an early halt to a study of high-dose Epogen in dialysis patients with symptomatic heart disease. The trial was designed to determine if raising the hematocrit to normal (42 percent) would provide additional patient benefit.
Hematocrit is the volume percentage of erythrocytes (red blood cells) in whole blood. EPO is approved to treat anemia associated with chronic renal failure in dialysis patients, and is used to increase hematocrit to a range of 30-36 percent. ...
