Millennium researchers published the finding that the mouse OB (leptin) receptor gene and the mouse diabetes (db) gene are the same. The finding, published in Cell, triggered an undisclosed milestone payment from partner Hoffmann-La Roche.
The research indicates that the obesity observed in db/db mice is due to a mutation in the leptin receptor gene. The defect leaves the mice unable to respond to what ordinarily would be the weight regulation effects of the high levels of leptin in their bodies. ...
