Researchers at LeukoSite and university collaborators reported in the Journal of Clinical Investigation that they have cloned the human eotaxin gene. Eotaxin, a chemokine, is a specific chemoattractant for eosinophils.
The study found that eosinophils, the white blood cells which are major contributors to the tissue damage in asthma, had a high number of eotaxin receptors on their surface. Both eosinophils and eotaxin were found in a high concentration in a human nasal polyp. ...
