Darwin Molecular scientists and colleagues reported the cloning and characterization of the gene for Werner's Syndrome (WS), a rare hereditary disease characterized by premature aging. The disease is considered a model for the aging process, as patients exhibit many of the physical features of aging, including arteriosclerosis, cancers, osteoporosis, Type II diabetes and cataracts. Darwin plans to study the role the WRN gene plays in the pathways leading to diseases of major medical importance. ...
