Darwin Molecular scientists and colleagues reported the cloning and characterization of the gene for Werner's Syndrome (WS), a rare hereditary disease characterized by premature aging. The disease is considered a model for the aging process, as patients exhibit many of the physical features of aging, including arteriosclerosis, cancers, osteoporosis, Type II diabetes and cataracts.
