Tropix announced a final settlement in its suit in Wayne County Michigan Circuit Court against Wayne State University, Lumigen Inc. and A. Paul Schaap. Last August, the court ruled that the defendants had misappropriated Tropix's chemiluminescent dioxetanes used in immunoassays and DNA probe assays (see BioCentury, Aug. 15).

In the final settlement, Tropix received ownership of all patents covering enzyme-triggered dioxetanes and their use in the detection of biological substances in clinical diagnostics and other applications. Lumigen also is obligated to make undisclosed payments to Tropix. ...
