Ada Yonath, ribosome pioneer and Nobel winner, passes away
Trailblazing Weizmann Institute professor’s work contributed to understanding of antibiotics

Ada Yonath, the Nobel Prize laureate in Chemistry known for her pioneering work on the structure and function of the ribosome, passed away Tuesday. She was 87.
A member of the Weizmann Institute community for decades, first as a doctoral student and ultimately as the Director of the Helen and Milton A. Kimmelman Center for Biomolecular Structure and Assembly, Yonath established Israel’s first lab for protein crystallography and led the research that deciphered the structure of the ribosome. ...
