Aiming for larger rare disease market, BioMarin buys Alesta program

Acquisition-and-spinout deal brings hypophosphatasia program into BioMarin’s skeletal disease portfolio

In its acquisition of Alesta, BioMarin sees the addition of a promising oral therapy for hypophosphatasia as well as an avenue toward commercializing an asset in what could become its largest market yet for a rare disease.

The deal is the latest under the leadership of CEO Alexander Hardy and EVP and CBO James Sabry.
