ACT for ALS becomes law, earmarks $100M annually to increase access to therapies
By signing the ACT for ALS Friday, President Joe Biden provided an upbeat finish for the ALS community in a year that had multiple setbacks for therapies, patients and advocates alike.
The ACT for ALS (S. 1813; H.R. 3537), formally, the Accelerating Access to Critical Therapies for ALS Act, will make $100 million available each fiscal year during 2022-26 to fund early access to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis therapies in the clinic, accelerate ALS and neurodegenerative disease therapy development through a public-private partnership among NIH, FDA and an academic research center or non-profit, and increase R&D on treatments for rare neurodegenerative diseases through a newly created research grant program. ...
