U.S. government likely to appeal WeChat injunction

The U.S. government is likely to appeal a preliminary injunction that has prevented it from shutting down WeChat in the U.S. The app will continue to function for U.S.-based users unless and until a higher court reverses the injunction.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Laurel Beeler of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California issued the injunction Sunday, ruling that plaintiffs had raised “serious questions” about the constitutionality of the Trump administration’s plan to shut down WeChat.
