PEG-hemoglobin data

Enzon presented animal data on its polyethylene glycol bovine hemoglobin that showed a lack of side effects with this blood substitute. The animal data also showed that PEG-hemoglobin can be given after a bleed in a matter of minutes, rather than over hours, with no appreciable excretion in the urine.

In dogs, replacement of 30 percent of blood volume with PEG-hemoglobin caused no appreciable changes in heart rate, mean arterial pressure and no hemoglobin excretion. However, the data were obtained in groups of three dogs each, which precluded statistical evaluation. ...
