Genzyme, Univax deal
GENZ and UNVX will develop and commercialize therapeutics to treat Pseudomonas bacterial lung infections associated with cystic fibrosis. UNVX said that 90 percent of CF patients experience obstructive brochitis caused by Pseudomonas bacteria. The collaboration will use UNVX's HyperGAM+CF, a polyclonal antibody which is designed to provide passive immunity against Pseudomonas. A Phase I/II trial of HyperGAM+CF is planned for early 1994, UNVX said.
GENZ bought 500,000 shares of UNVX at $10 per share, representing a 4 percent equity position. GENZ also will pay a license fee and milestones that could total $6 million.
