CEGE (Foster City, Calif.) published data on a new retroviral packaging system, showing it produces relatively high titers of recombinant retrovirus for gene transfer.

As detailed in Blood, transfection of the human 293 cell line by the kat expression vector yielded viral titers 10- to 50-fold higher than what has been reported previously. Moreover, co-culture of human T cells with the transfected cells resulted in transfer of the kat plasmids at efficiencies of 10-40 percent, levels 5- to 10-fold greater than previously achieved in human T cells using other retroviral vectors. ...
