Axiom announced that it has developed a technology called high-throughput pharmacological screening, which can screen combinatorial libraries on a variety of cell types and measure physiologic responses of these cells in real time. The technique avoids radioactive labels, using fluorescent or luminescent reporting instead.

Responses of target cells measured by the technique include calcium ion flux, pH changes, levels of cAMP, and other signals. As many as 8,000 to 10,000 compounds can be screened per day by function, and affinity and selectivity can be determined for 400 compounds a day, Axiom said. ...
