University researchers presented results of a Phase I trial of ConXn at the International Society for Rheumatic Therapy meeting in Paris. In scleroderma, the body produces excess collagen that encases and hardens the skin and internal organs. ConXn inhibits excessive connective tissue buildup by decreasing collagen production and enhancing collagen breakdown.

The placebo-controlled, double-blind trial enrolled 30 patients with diffuse, systemic scleroderma who received relaxin or placebo by continuous subcutaneous infusion over 28 days. Doses were 6, 12, 50, 100 and 200 µg/kg/day. The compound was safe and well-tolerated. Based on physician and patient assessments of skin softening, 10 of 20 treated patients improved versus 2 of 10 on placebo. ...
