Lidakol n-docosanol 10 percent cream data
The results of a preliminary review of two Phase III U.S. and Canadian trials with Lidakol (n-docosanol 10 percent) in 648 patients for the treatment of oral herpes showed no difference between placebo and drug in time to healing (5 days), the primary end point. The double-blind trial's negative results may be due to unforeseen activity of the placebo, the company said.
In one study, Lidakol treatment resulted in a statistically significant benefit, compared to placebo, in arresting the progression of oral herpes to the vesicle, or blister, stage in patients who began treatment when they experienced redness, an early sign of an outbreak. Lesions were aborted in 76 percent of patients (16 of 21) treated with Lidakol, compared with 37 percent (7 of 19) on placebo (p=0.036). ...
