Geron scientists and collaborators published findings suggesting that the immune cells in patients with HIV age at an accelerated rate.
Researchers looked at the telomere lengths of CD8 cells in AIDS patients, showing that the cells have aged to levels similar to those typically seen in people who are 100 years old. Reporting in AIDS, the researchers speculated that the CD8 cells have reached the end of their replicative life span after persistent viral stimulation. ...
