Darwin discovered the gene for Werner's syndrome, a genetically determined aging syndrome caused by a recessive, single-gene mutation. The syndrome is associated with an increase in carcinomas, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and diabetes.
Darwin believes the gene may be the first to have been discovered through large-scale sequencing. The company identified the region on chromosome 8 where the gene is located and sequenced that region, which comprised more than 600,000 base pairs of DNA. ...
