Aaron Diamond researchers reported that two altered copies of the gene coding for the co-entry molecule for HIV render the bearer immune to HIV. HIV enters cells by joining to the CKR-5 receptor and the CD4 receptor.
As published in Cell, two men remain free of infection despite having knowingly exposed themselves repeatedly to the virus by unprotected sex. Their T cells could not be infected in culture by doses of HIV 1,000 times greater than that usually required. ...
