The molecular basis for the ability of testis tissue to escape graft rejection has been identified as the Fas ligand (FasL), a cell surface molecule that interacts with its receptor (Fas) in regulating immune responses.
Resting T cells express low levels of Fas, but levels rise after antigen engagement, and eventually cause apoptosis of T cells in order to turn off immune responses. ...
