A retrospective study using the San Diego company's free PSA assay improves specificity of prostate cancer screening. The assay could reduce the need for biopsies with minimal effect on detection of cancer. The researchers cautioned, however, that the sensitivity of the PSA measure was related to the enlarged state of the prostate.
As reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association, researchers evaluated frozen serum from 113 men with a spectrum of prostate sizes who had been recruited for cancer screening. ...
