The Cupertino, Calif., company published a process that allows repair of fractures by injection of a biomaterial that hardens in minutes and allows infiltration and eventual replacement with normal bone.
As described in Science, within 12 hours the injected paste turns into carbonated apatite, the mineral phase of bone. At that time it already possesses a compressive strength that is greater than cancellous bone, while the tensile strength is about the same. ...
