Israeli scientists tested transgenic plants engineered with both metabolic and target-site resistence to herbicides, reporting in Nature that the target-site approach worked best. The tests were made in tomato, tobacco and oilseed rape plants.
In target-site resistance, the herbicide can move safely through the host plant to its roots, where it kills the connected parasite. The herbicide's target enzyme is modified in the host plant to preclude binding of the herbicide. ...
