Scientists isolated a lipid from the cerebrospinal fluid of sleep-deprived cats that induced sleep in rats.
As reported in Science, the sleep produced by injection of a synthetic analog of the lipid, at a time that the rats would normally be awake, was very similar to the normal pattern of slow wave and REM sleep in these animals. ...
