The Gaithersburg, Md., company has collaborated with Johns Hopkins researchers to develop a screening assay for cancer. The test uses PCR to find changes in microsatellites, repeat sequences of DNA that are prone to damage in cancer.
The researchers looked for 52 different repeat sequences in the DNA of normal and tumor tissue samples from 100 patients with head and neck bladder and lung cancers Of the 100 tumors screened with a panel of markers for tri- and tetra-nucleotide repeats, 26 displayed alterations of at least one locus. ...
