Neuprex recombinant bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein data

XOMA (Berkeley, Calif.) announced results of a Phase I/II cross-over trial in normal volunteers given small amounts of endotoxin, in which rBPI countered endotoxin-mediated responses.

In the eight-person trial, reported at the Third International Congress on the Immune Consequences of Trauma, Shock and Sepsis in Munich, administration of the protein led to significantly less release of tumor necrosis factor, interleukin-6, and interleukin-8 compared to patients given placebo.
