The Richmond, Calif., company has deciphered the action of the cancer-associated Ras gene, which ferries growth-promoting signals from the surface into cell nuclei.
As published in Science, Ras was found to activate another protein, Raf, by causing Raf to move into the cell membrane, where it anchored to the cytoskeleton. Once there, Raf was activated independently of Ras. ...
