NIH researchers and colleagues published a report in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences showing that hepatitis C infection can elicit neutralizing antibodies in humans, but that the antibodies are specific to virus isolates.

The authors raised concerns about the potential for development of vaccines against the virus, citing the continuous emergence of escape mutants that are not neutralized. ...
