VRTX published in Nature its solution of the structure of ICE, the enzyme that makes interleukin-1 beta from an intracellular precursor. The findings, derived from X-ray crystallographic data, also provide a structural basis for the therapeutic action of gold salts in rheumatoid arthritis: the agents appear to bind at the interface between the enzyme's 10K subunits.
